The Lugoff-Elgin Middle School Media Center recently became a competitive arena with students battling to see who would win Clemson or Carolina. The students – including Jonathan Lowder, Corey Bledsoe, Bobbie Schermbeck , Erin Carraway, Angela Hill and Austin Teague -- put together their team's puzzle before and after school and at lunch time. While the competition was heated and close, Carolina won by about 35 pieces.

For the first time since implementation of the state report cards in 2001, 100 percent of the Absolute and Growth ratings issued Friday for Kershaw County elementary and middle schools are Excellent, Good or Average. Statewide, only 82 percent of schools achieved this level for Absolute ratings and 88 percent for Growth ratings.
