Connecting classrooms to life at Lugoff-Elgin High

New Lugoff-Elgin High School Principal Worth Thomasson wants students to understand that what they learn in the classroom can be applied to life outside the classroom. Thomasson, who moved from being principal at North Central High School in August, hopes to make that connection through promoting literacy this school year.

CMS implements full ‘outdoor life unit’ program

With the beginning of the school year, Camden Middle School (CMS) became the first middle school in Kershaw County to implement and offer a full Outdoor Life Unit program as a physical education course. Currently, all three Kershaw County School District (KCSD) high schools offer the course, as do a few others in South Carolina.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Doby's Mill Elementary School in Lugoff a youth literacy grant in the amount of $4,000 to support its Target READ Program.

School News: Westville’s Aly Bolin named to Auburn 2013-14 Dean’s List

Aly Bolin, of Westville, was named to the Dean's List of Auburn University for the 2013-2014 academic year. Aly is now a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Community and Civic Engagement. Aly was a participant in Auburn's Research Week 2014. Aly will complete her Honors College senior thesis this fall, under Dr. Stacey Hunt. Aly was recently named an Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Fellow and is a two-time Auburn Leadership in Political Science nominee.

Phase 2 referenda officially on November ballot

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees submitted necessary paperwork to the Kershaw County Board of Elections in August to seek voters' approval on the November ballot to build five new school facilities and renovate five others. Total cost for construction is approximately $130 million.
