KH board to meet in Elgin tonight

In the first of what it plans as a series of meetings held in different parts of the county, the KershawHealth Board of Trustees will hold a meeting tonight in the conference room of the Outpatient/Urgent Care Center at Elgin. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. Trustees and hospital administrators will be on hand one hour before the meeting begins, at 5 p.m., to speak to the public and answer questions on various topics, including KershawHealth's strategic plan.

Stover Middle School students paint mural for school

Stover Middle School teachers Cassandra Mickle and Jane Gari wrote a grant offered through the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) called Strategic Planning/Special Project Grant. The purpose of the grant was to invite "Artists at Stover." Mickle established the "Creating a Learning Environment for Me" initiative to encourage student involvement in creating permanent works of art that would appeal to the all students at Stover.

Separate football coach, AD jobs to cost $10,500 extra

It could cost just a little more than an additional $10,500 at each Kershaw County School District (KCSD) high school to split the duties of athletic director (AD) and head football coach. That's according to information KCSD Director of Public Services Duane Pate gave to the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees at its meeting Tuesday night.

Camden High receives Distinguished Arts Program Grant

Camden High School (CHS) is enjoying an award-winning 2014. Aside from being named a "Palmetto's Finest School," CHS also received a Distinguished Arts Program Grant for a project titled "Commitment to Excellence in the Arts." It is the first grant of its kind to be awarded to a Kershaw County school.

KCCC member praises board for Phase 2 project list

Dennis Stuber, vice president of First Citizens Bank and a member of Kershaw County Citizens for Children (KCCC), praised the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees during its meeting Tuesday for coming up with the list of projects for Phase 2 of the district's facilities equalization plan (FEP).

Kershaw County SAT scores see largest increase in Midlands

Kershaw County 2014 seniors' SAT average composite score jumped 29 points in the same year that the percentage of test takers rose from 46 to 54 percent. According to the Kershaw County School District (KCSD), his was the largest increase by any school district in the Midlands.

School board to receive end-of-course results

Kershaw County School District (KCSD) administrators will present end-of-course results to the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees during its meeting Tuesday, set for 6 p.m. in North Central High School's media center. KCSD Director for Student Assessment Lavoy Carter will report on the percentage of students who passed each section of the end-of-course exams from 2012, 2013 and 2014, an analysis of those scores and a plan for improvement.

FFA donation

South Carolina Equine Associates Inc. (SCEA) recently chose the North Central High School (NCHS) chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) as this year's recipient of a $537 donation to the program. Sponsored by Zoetis, the animal medication division of Pfizer, the donation is based on the amount of Zoetis products purchased in the year by SCEA -- a group of equine veterinarians and support staff in Camden.
