Kershaw County middle schools will join the nation next month by recognizing Groundhog Shadowing Day Feb. 2. Seventh- and eighth-grade students will be allowed to go to work with a parent, relative or neighbor to learn more about the workplace and potential careers.

‘Speed booking’

Sixth-grade students at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School -- including Tyesha Jett, Katelyn Vandevander, Brandon Phillips, Justin Dorton,Otensia Anderson, Turner Stockman, Camille Sullivan, Autum Walker-Cornell, Zac Branham, Elizabeth Talbert, Jay Lynch, Caitlyn Simon, Caden Britton and Greta Tautkus -- participated in "speed booking" during their lunch period. The event was coordinated by Jennifer Lanier, a University of South Carolina intern under the supervision of Anne Lemieux. School board looks at finances

Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Chief Financial Officer Donnie Wilson said "things are looking a little bit better." Wilson made the comment while presenting financial information from last November to the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees Tuesday. Normally, November's financials would have been discussed during the board's December financial/facilities meeting.

‘Critical, hazardous’ fixes at Zemp to only cost $5,000

It will only cost the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) about $5,000 to repair the most critical and hazardous issues at Camden High School's Zemp Stadium. The district plans to begin making those repairs -- and similar ones at Lugoff-Elgin and North Central high schools' stadiums -- during warming weather later this year.
