A thirst for literature

After reading the story, "Lemonade for Sale," second-graders at Lugoff Elementary School made and sold lemonade at the school. The funds generated -- $151.83 – were donated to Relay For Life. Peanut butter mountain

Students at the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) collected a whopping 907 jars of peanut butter during Red Ribbon Week in October as a part of ATEC's annual project to benefit the food bank of Christian Community Ministries. Stanley to leave Midway for SCDE

The Kershaw County School Board accepted the resignation Nov. 16 of Midway Elementary School Principal Jewell Stanley effective Dec. 31. Stanley will take a position in the S.C. Department of Education's (SDE) federal and state accountability office overseeing Title I programs.

Team spirit

The Lugoff-Elgin Middle School Media Center recently became a competitive arena with students battling to see who would win Clemson or Carolina. The students – including Jonathan Lowder, Corey Bledsoe, Bobbie Schermbeck , Erin Carraway, Angela Hill and Austin Teague -- put together their team's puzzle before and after school and at lunch time. While the competition was heated and close, Carolina won by about 35 pieces.

Trustees approve new round of projects

A-head of the game

Landen Mills and Jakob Pressley are ready for some football! These Wateree Elementary School first-graders worked with teacher Melisa Blankenship to measure the circumference of the ball. Then, the group used the tape measure to find other objects with a similar circumference. They discovered that their heads were pretty close to the circumference of a football.
