Kershaw County's voters may get the chance to decide whether the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) moves forward with the second phase of its facilities equalization project. Camden Elementary School Principal Ed Yount spent Monday night on the school's roof as part of an agreement made after challenging the elementary school students to raise $1,000 for the United Way of Kershaw County's campaign. The students actually exceeded the $1,000 benchmark, and raised as much as $1,349 through a variety of school fundraisers. Pine Tree Hill Elementary School is one of three schools statewide to be honored by the South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators for closing the achievement gap. Of the more than 500 Title I schools in South Carolina, Pine Tree Hill ranked in the top three in improving student achievement among students who have historically scored lower than their peers.
