Camden native Donna Stoney got a rare treat as she walked across the stage in May to receive her diploma from Coker College in Hartsville. Her sister, Gertrude Stoney, an adjunct professor at Coker, was sitting among the sea of professors cheering their students on.

Making a difference

In 2005, Clifton Harryton Anderson, a retired mental-health professional, said that he would be a "solid figure and promise keeper" to a small class of Bethune Elementary fifth-graders. To their surprise, Anderson would be consistently "caring" and "supportive" of their endeavors over the next seven years.
