CHS students are ‘Upward Bound’

Thanks to a new partnership with Benedict College, Camden High School (CHS) students are creating a successful foundation for their college career. CHS recently became affiliated with Benedict's Upward Bound program which, according to its website, is committed to fostering the necessary academic and social skills to prepare students to compete in a global society.

KCSD’s Wilson part of education funding reform effort

For years, Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Chief Financial Officer Donnie Wilson has said the way the state of South Carolina funds its public schools isn't working. Now, he's among a group of representatives from 16 school districts that has developed the S.C. Jobs, Education and Tax (SCJET) Act of 2013. It's an effort, Wilson said, to restructure education funding once again.

Sheheen concludes state board of education term

Rose Sheheen has spent her life in education and supporting educators. Sheheen taught elementary and middle school and SEAGUL for eight years and was a principal at Blaney Elementary School for 14 years before becoming a district-level employee in Kershaw County. Despite her long-term stint as a school and district administrator, Sheheen always thought of herself as a teacher even, she said, if it was the "boss-teacher or the chief-teacher."

KCSD develops arts strategic plan

The Kershaw County School District (KCSD) has developed and adopted a brand new strategic plan enabling students to "explore, discover, express, create and succeed" through the exploration of the arts. KCSD administrators and a committee of arts-affiliated community members have worked for several months to develop the "Strategic Plan for the Arts" through the year 2018.
