The Citadel honored the following cadets for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2010-2011 academic year.
Margaret Lindsey of Lugoff was among 436 students who graduated during Gardner-Webb University's 2011 spring commencement exercises.
Doby's Mill Elementary School is one of seven South Carolina schools to win a prestigious Exemplary Writing Program Award.
Lugoff-Elgin Middle School recently saluted its South Carolina Junior Scholars. Students achieve Junior Scholar status by either scoring 50 or higher in verbal, math or writing on the PSAT or by participating in Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP) during their seventh-grade year. The Doby's Mill Elementary School robotics team recently presented a $100 check to the Kershaw County American Red Cross to support its district goal. The funds were raised during a schoolwide bake sale to help raise awareness to the local initiatives the district chapter of the American Red Cross supports. On hand for the presentation were tech lab teacher and LEGO team adviser Amanda Raper, students Katie Welch, Ashley Smith, Devonte' Benson, Caden Britton, Vance Summers, D'Karlus Colvin, Seth Addeo, Jonathan Richardson and Alex Robertson and Red Cross representatives Lois Stuber and Nancy Cataldo.

Tuesday night, the Kershaw County School Board of Trustees was all set to craft a "worst case scenario budget" for the 2011-12 fiscal year at Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan's recommendation.
The Kershaw County School District will hold half days for students May 26 and 27, the final two days of student attendance for this school year. Students in developmentally delayed and 4-year-old kindergarten classes will not attend. SEAGUL classes will not be held.
Camden Middle School students put their folding skills to work to help raise funds for victims of the March 11 earthquake in Japan.
Cadet Derek Hunt Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Derek Stanley of Camden, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy – West Point May 21.

Lugoff Elementary School has reported its honor rolls for the third nine-week period.
What's the matter? Well, Melissa Smith's third-grade students -- including Quad Patton, Gauge Peavy and Karly Emanuel -- at Wateree Elementary School know that their matter is a solid. They were given their solid (ice) and challenged to find the quickest method of changing it into a liquid. They chose friction and heat and led the class in changing their state of matter.
The option of approaching Kershaw County Council for a millage increase is still in play for the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees.
