The grand prize winners have been announced for the Kershaw County Recreation Department's annual Christmas Card contest sponsored by First Palmetto Savings Bank. All schools participating were combined by grade in order to award the overall cash prize winners. First-place winners received $25; second-place winners were presented $15; and third-place winners were awarded $10. Jackson School hosted a Christmas-time celebration Dec. 8. The chorus began with a Christmas concert followed by a Christmas presentation from Jackson's Lego Robotics team. After the reading of "The Polar Express," Jackson had a special visit from Santa. During the visit Santa posed for photos with students and passed out candy canes. The Kershaw County School District will have a half day for students Friday, the last day of student attendance before the holiday break. Staff will work a regular schedule. Students in 3-and 4-year-old developmentally delayed and 4-year-old kindergarten classes will not attend.

Leslie M. Stover Middle School students participated in the 2011 SC All State Chorus. These students auditioned and were accepted in the Spring of 2011 as a part of the Stover Middle Chorus. In the fall, some Stover and Lugoff-Elgin High School students had to learn a new repertoire of music for the ACDA All State Chorus Festival at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Members include Haylee Pagan, Moriah Payne, Ty Morgan, Kayce Robinson, Kendra Mills, Gabriel Medina, Montanna Marsh, Emily Murphy, and Kaitlyn Fuller. Stover Middle is very proud.
