Old CMS to be razed

The buildings that housed the former Camden Middle School (CMS) on Laurens Street could be torn down in the near future. The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees looked at the possibility as Finance/ Facilities Chair Matt Irick presented an update on the former school at the full board's Feb. 7 meeting.

New two-tiered KCSD volunteer system in place

Volunteers in the Kershaw County School District must now undergo a revised application process that divides them into two levels depending upon possible unsupervised interaction with students. The new process took effect Feb. 1.

Applications for the 2012-13 Junior Leadership Kershaw County class for rising juniors and seniors are now available at the county's high schools and the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center.

Academics and art

Local artist Patricia Adelman (second from right) donated her original painting, "Excuse Me," to Camden High School's Academic Booster Club. The Academic Booster Club raised more than $2,500 from the raffle of the painting which was won by Denise Jeffers (left). Money raised will go toward awards and incentives for students to help inspire them to achieve their best within their school and community. Shadowing for the future

On Ground Hog's day, seventh- and eighth-grade students from area middle schools traditionally go to work with a relative to expand their knowledge of the world of work. Fourteen students visited Blaney Elementary School to shadow relatives or former teachers. Twelve of those were from Stover Middle School. Shadows included (first row, from left) Kaitlyn Fuller, Kortney McCoy, Katelyn Morgan, Rebeka Scherer, Kayla Perito, Alyssa Weems, (second row) Austin McAvoy (L-EMS), Dylan Rogers, Craig Carter (L-EMS), Caroline Seeley, Mikayla Price and Ashley O'Cain.
