School board meets again tonight

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will meet again tonight, just one week after its last meeting. The agenda is a relatively short one insofar as the number of items to discuss, but the discussions could be somewhat involved.

Robert Alexander Ruth has been named to the Dean's List for the fall quarter of 2015, with a GPA of 3.50 at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, N.C. Ruth is a freshmen majoring in sports/entertainment/event mangement. He is a 2015 graduate of S.C. Virtual Charter School.

Blackmon, DuRant, Halley reelected to top school board posts

Ron Blackmon, Kim DuRant and Shirley Halley will be the chairman, vice chair and chaplain of the Kershaw County Board of Trustees for another year. The three were unanimously reelected to their top positions on the board by their fellow trustees during a special 10 a.m. meeting Tuesday.

Career prep

Camden High School (CHS) 9th Graders William Jordan (first), Eileen Briston (second) and Elias Torres (third) go through 3- to 5-minute mock job interviews with Kershaw County School District employees Duane Pate and Greta McAvoy in December. The students were involved in a career preparation unit in CHS' High School 101 Leadership course. Other students were interviewed by community members who are human resources personnel at local businesses. The students were required to wear appropriate interview attire, prepare a resume in advance and answer questions typical in a job interview.

School board to meet Tuesday morning

Once a year, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees is required to hold a daytime meeting, primarily used for organizational purposes. The board has, and is again Tuesday at 10 a.m., holding this meeting on the second Tuesday of January. Meetings are normally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m.
