Nominations being accepted for CHS Hall of Fame

In 2016, the School Improvement Council of Camden High School (CHS) created the CHS Hall of Fame to honor alumni whose accomplishments, deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life's work and/or service to their community. This award may also honor individuals who did not graduate from CHS, but who have significantly and consistently contributed to the school's work and mission. Graduates of Jackson High School may also be nominated for this award. Nominations will be kept confidential.

Bus drivers unite against bullying

Hundreds of Kershaw County School District (KCSD) school bus drivers took an oath Feb. 17 to do everything they can to combat bullying on their buses. Taking the oath was the culmination of a months-long partnership with The ALPHA Center. The ALPHA Center helped drivers to identify types of bullying, what to do if they suspect bullying is going on, how bullying affects students and tips drivers can use to intervene in or prevent bullying.

L-EHS students donate to KC Sheriff's Office

For their National Honor Society (NHS) project in February, four Lugoff-Elgin High School students delivered bottled water; Gatorade; granola bars; chewing gum; and crackers and snacks and candy to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office. The students made individual bags containing these items to hand out to deputies.

Students take some kind of test on 141 of 180 school days

On the evening of Feb. 21, members of the Kershaw County Board of Trustees watched green bars gradually fill up entire weeks on PowerPoint slides of the current school year calendar. Each of the bars represented a day of state testing teachers must administer and students must take.

Green makes Clemson Dean’s List

Mary Margaret Primrose Green of Camden has been named to the Dean's List at Clemson University for the Fall 2016 semester. Green is a Junior Psychology major with a Communications minor. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must achieve a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
