‘Access’ to healthcare continues thanks to $500,000 Duke Endowment grant

The Duke Endowment recently awarded a two-year, $500,000 grant to KershawHealth to expand Access Kershaw's community network of care for low-income, high risk patients in Kershaw County, many of whom are uninsured. Access Kershaw is a strategic partnership between KershawHealth, Kershaw County Community Medical Clinic, Sandhills Medical Foundation, S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, S.C. Department of Mental Health, and the ALPHA Center.

Gunn begins as interim KershawHealth CEO

Terry J. Gunn is now acting as KershawHealth's interim chief executive officer (CEO). Gunn signed an employment agreement Wednesday with KershawHealth Board of Trustees Chair Karen Eckford and began working that day.

KH board could name interim CEO today

The KershawHealth Board of Trustees could name its choice for interim chief executive officer (CEO) of the healthcare organization today. The board voted to narrow the field to two finalists during its one regular meeting of the month Tuesday. After contacting them Wednesday, the board publically announced that Terry J. Gunn and David E. Loving are the two candidates it is considering for the interim CEO position.

KershawHealth lost $3.6 million in Fiscal Year 2013

It won't be official until an audit is conducted in December, but internal financial statements at KershawHealth show the organization lost $3.62 million in Fiscal Year 2013 and a decrease in net assets of $4.75 million. The fiscal year ended Sept. 30.

The KershawHealth Board of Trustees held a special called meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening to interview another candidate for the position of interim chief executive officer. The board, which held the meeting at KershawHealth's Health Resource Center, interviewed Terry Gunn, a former healthcare CEO in South Carolina, during a closed-door executive session.

KH withholds interim CEO candidate names

The KershawHealth Board of Trustees continues to withhold the names of candidates it is interviewing for the position of interim chief executive officer (CEO) of the healthcare organization. The board interviewed one candidate at Springdale Hall Club on Thursday and plans to interview a second candidate at 5:30 p.m. today at the former home of Indigo Jones restaurant on Rutledge Street.

KH board interviewing interim CEO candidates

Members of the KershawHealth Board of Trustees called a special meeting that was held at noon Thursday inside Springdale Hall Club to interview the first of two candidates to be interim chief executive officer (CEO) of the healthcare organization. A second interview will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. during another special called meeting at the former Indigo Jones restaurant building. Members went into executive session to interview the first candidate and planned to do the same for Monday night's interview.

KH to assist residents with healthcare exchange

Three KershawHealth employees will become certified application counselors, or CACs, and assist patients and others interested in learning more about the healthcare insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act. During Monday's KershawHealth Board of Trustees meeting, KershawHealth Executive Vice President and COO/CFO Mike Bunch said the healthcare organization is waiting for an email giving it the go-ahead to have the employees trained.

Eckford, Holmstrom are new KH board chair, vice chair

Karen Eckford and Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom are the new chair and vice chair, respectively, of the KershawHealth Board of Trustees. Eckford, a vice president of NBSC in Camden, recently completed her first year as a KershawHealth trustee. Holmstrom is an internal medicine physician with Sentinel Health Partners and has served on the board for four years of a six-year term.

KershawHealth board votes for employee pay increase

On a night when the KershawHealth Board of Trustees was saying good-bye to three of its own and welcoming their replacements, trustees voted unanimously Monday to give a 2.25 percent across-the-board salary increase to employees beginning Oct. 1.
