The year 2012 was a deeply challenging one for me and my family. We faced a number of life-changing events. From the beginning of the year to the end, KershawHealth -- in various ways -- was a part of our journey. There could be no better companion for the rough road we traveled.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said "Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible."
This mother/mother-in-law lives on Social Security and a part-time job. Obama's mother-in-law lives in the White House on our taxes and wants for nothing. Social Security tells us we can't make but so much money or they will take back one dollar for every two dollars we make over. Now, when you turn 65, you have to pay Medicare out of your Social Security; then you have to pay supplemental ...
Guns and gun laws are not the problem of deaths in the United States. To solve lots of our violent crimes, the whole nation has to stop ignoring the needs of mentally ill people. We, as a nation, have to stop the bullying, which I feel is the reason why lots of gangs are formed and lots of suicides and mass murders are committed.
Recently, as I tarried the ground of the estate of President Thomas Jefferson, the first 18 United States presidents and this coming February 2013 Black History month came to mind.
The board of trustees, executive director, staff and volunteers of the Family Resource Center are still celebrating our successful annual meeting and fundraiser event held at the Robert Mills Court house on November 29th.
When one explores the hall of memories, some moments cannot be forgotten or dimmed by the passage of time.
I would like to write a letter expressing my gratitude and thanks for Powers Funeral Home and family for the memorial service they provided to the community on Sunday, December 2, 2012. It was so amazing, filled with precious memories and love. It was a service given to those people who have lost loved ones throughout the year of 2012. It was very meaningful and so full of God's presence ...
Hopefully there are no echoes of a "little Detroit" here in Kershaw County and never will be any time ever. May we never get that low to assume that just because of a vote that a bailout is owed or is coming to save you. Can you imagine voting for someone just so you can use your vote against them? Amazingly, some councilwoman on the Detroit City Council thinks ...
I enjoyed watching this year's Christmas parade with (Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr.) Frank Morgan standing in front of Greenleaf Villa. Reflecting on it now, I must share with your readers the fact that there is nothing like a small town Christmas parade. Having personally participated in a more than a dozen, I can honestly speak of the joy and excitement of being in such a parade.
Thank you, thank you! About time it was said. You always have the courage to do that. Arial added just the right touch to your piece. So glad DeMint is gone. Haley says we won't find another.... How great is that? But she will try hard. Thank you again!
It's absolutely awesome! It's incredibly unbelievable! That's what your support year after year means to the Lugoff Optimist Club. Each year we send out a letter asking for your financial help in order that elementary students can attend a play that teaches a lesson that is crucial to their school years. This year's play taught a lesson on anti-bullying.
I wish to thank the Chronicle-Independent for its recent series of articles and columns surrounding the anniversary of Michael Smith's murder and the community reaction which followed. As the Project Director of the Safe Schools / Healthy Students Initiative, I'd like to commend your excellent coverage as well as add a few items:
One of the great political highlights of the 2008 elections did not take place in Washington, DC or Columbia, South Carolina, but in the City of Camden, South Carolina. The election of 26 year old Jeffrey Graham brought a pleasant spin to local politics. Many of us saw Jeffrey Graham as a "fresh, interesting, and inspiring" young man who epitomizes the spirit of a new breed of politicians. We looked ...
Have you taken the time to walk behind the center of town to the "Town Center" (editors note: Town Green)? My husband and I parked on Broad and walked the alley to the new town square and were confronted with a breath-taking view of King Hagler and Joseph Kershaw -- if you listened very quietly, you could almost hear them speaking. From the top of their heads to the ...
