I read the front page article on "wayfinding signage" for Camden in the Monday edition. I think this is a great idea, but I would suggest that the Camden City Council take a new look at street signs on Broad and DeKalb streets identifying street names.
I can half-way understand the 4-way stop at the corner of York and Mill streets since there is a blind, uphill snake curve on the east end of York Street which is a 30 degree RW from Mill Street to Hwy. 34. The west end of York Street, from Mill Street to Broad Street is a 90 degree RW.
My personal thanks to you and your staff for all the effort put into the coverage of Lomar Clark's death. He was among the few students over the years I have taught or worked with in JROTC I will remember for the days to come. He was the epitome of a young man that men of all ages could emulate.

I have been a member of IPTAY (Clemson University's athletic fundraising organization) for the last 26 years. Needless to say, I support and generally agree with the manner in which Clemson is operated. Recently, however, I am in disagreement with its president's call for more diversification. Generally, when someone makes such a call, they simply want more hyphenated Americans.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has promised to introduce his "Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" in the Senate in the next few weeks. This is an unconstitutional attack on women's rights and healthcare. In 1973, the Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision, allowed women to terminate a pregnancy based on the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. That amendment guarantees the right to privacy. It is the law of the land.
Melissa Brazell (Emmons) has a love for her community and a passion for public service. Those shining qualities were apparent when I encountered her when I was campaigning for chairman of Kershaw County.

Now that Christmas has come and gone I am sure there are a number of new iPad's, laptop computers and more wireless adapted electronics in use. Camden is one of the few cities in this state that has made the effort to establish a free wi-fi network in the community. It would be an asset to the community to see the coverage area expanded more than it is now.
I wish to applaud Councilwoman Alfred Mae Drakeford for her letter "Urges support for Marketplace Fairness Act." I agree wholeheartedly with everything she said. Ever since the state started requesting the total amount of out-of-state purchases be added to the state tax return, I have compiled and included this on my return. I keep a list of the out-of-state businesses and amount I spent during the year so the total will be given to the CPA who prepares my taxes.
Anytime we, as a county, can truly honor something or someone, a warm feeling can overcome you. This is good. This experience happened Dec. 9, the final (regular) Kershaw County Council meeting of 2014. One had to be there to witness this "proud of you" feeling obviously everyone certainly felt.

Several years ago, my wife and I, along with our youngest son, his wife and their children, attended a Fourth of July celebration in Bath, Maine. Bath is a picturesque little city which only Maine seems capable of providing. It is also a seafaring town, home to the Bath Iron Works, where ships have slid down the ways for close to 200 years.
I was browsing the internet looking at different sites listing historical events of the past 100 years and was surprised to see how much of history had been left off. So many events which have taken place during the past century which have been instrumental in the growth of this country have been left out of our history books and articles of today.
Words fail me to express just how proud I am of the people in Charleston for the class they have exhibited in handling a senseless, tragic act of violence committed by a psychologically impaired individual. In this day and time, when our society seems to be seeking lower and lower morals and displaying less belief in God, it is the first and most encouraging sign of hope for salvation of our society I have seen in a number of years.
