I, for one, am getting somewhat provoked at the #MeToo movement.

Letter: Due process, civil rights absent in family court

Having been dealing with Kershaw County Family Court for more than two years now, I find it amazing how judges and lawyers who practice family law have immunity from lawsuits or wrong doing. We all know that family courts are considered a he said/she said court. And that a person's due process or civil rights do not count in family court. But we never ask, "What about the children's rights?" Are our children's rights protected and are their best interests really being considered?

Letter: Jones questions econ dev expenditures

I commented and made a motion at the Jan. 29, meeting of county council as to cost effective means I believe can and should be used to address the problems and issues that were identified by staff, consultants, and department of commerce as to economic development in Kershaw County in 2014. My motion was to limit costs incurred by the citizens of Kershaw County going forward as to the $17.2 million bond by not spending anymore of the proceeds not already spent or committed. To date, approximately $3.6 to $4 million of $17.2 million bond have been ...

Letter: A beautiful memory of the Price House

We were children. My sisters and I walked from Mulberry Plantation to Jackson School in Camden. The Price House was then in the same location it is now on Broad Street. The children walked country miles to school in the cold and sometimes rain.

Letter: ‘So, what the hell do we do now?’

We live in a culture filled with violence in real life, in the movies, in video games and in posted YouTube videos. Fixing the breakdown of the family unit, complete with love and discipline and structure, will be the first step to bringing our social relationships into a realm of sensitivity and togetherness.

Letter: Resist evil

So many men are so insecure, so pitiful, that they have to hold women or Muslims or blacks or Mexicans or LGBTQ people down so they can feel powerful. We have seen too much evidence of that. All you men who are not like that, (and there are many) need to confront your fellow men in and out of Congress face to face -- not just on Facebook or with your friends. We are all reeling from the most recent shooting. Seventeen more young people are dead.

Letter: We have a college town in Kershaw County

We said emphatically that "Kershaw County is open for business," when we cut the ribbon on Thursday on the new college campus in the county seat; and, we acted decisively on Vision 2030 with the courage to invest in a better future.

Letter: Owners to blame for feral dogs

Seeing packs of feral dogs running loose on their property and watching them attacking their animals and children is a frightening situation for the people of Elgin to experience. Frankly, I'm surprised they put up with it as long as they have without doing something themselves.

Letter: Jones proposes alternative to 2015 bond

I would like to make some comments about the discussion regarding the $17.2 million economic development bond that was issued in 2015. Since not everyone sitting here was present then, let me briefly remind everyone how that came about.

Letter: What does ‘school choice’ really mean?

For decades "school choice" has been the education policy mantra of the conservatives. Now we have a market for school choice and it appears even some former foes are embracing and perhaps co-opting the term. This causes one to question the continued reverence of "school choice" as the panacea to mend education.

Letter: Patient thankful for Bone & Joint Boot Camp

Recently I was a patient at KershawHealth. While there, I participated in their Bone and Joint Boot Camp and was introduced to the well-trained team of nurses and staff assigned exclusively to the Boot Camp under the direction of Dr. Andrew Piasecki. I received thorough instruction of what to expect during and after my knee replacement. What a great and informative service for all getting ready to have a joint repair. Dr. Piasecki of Camden Bone and Joint has raised the level of care at KershawHealth.
