On April 13, Mrs. Audree A. Clark of Cassatt celebrated her 91st birthday with her family on the patio of the Karesh Wing at KershawHealth. Mrs. Clark was on the Karesh Wing recovering from a recent fall and was receiving physical therapy. Throughout the day, the family talked in anticipation of her coming home, and she said she wanted a really big celebration thrown in her ...
Webster's Dictionary defines "forum" as a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion.
I recently received my updated property appraisal notice and was quite surprised. I was surprised with the reassessment because the value is higher than previous years. And although we've maintained the property in good shape we have not made any expansions or improvements. This property was acquired in 2005 and, based on my limited understanding of appraisals and reappraisals and the associated state laws, my belief would be that it was based on the ...
Thank you, city of Camden, for creating the beautiful Village Green – a very nice addition to our city.
As a volunteer at KershawHealth, I agree with Bob Dornblaser. We do take jobs away from employees. However, if we all resigned, the hospital leadership would not rehire those employees. The patients would suffer. The employees who depend on our help would suffer. Amy Kinard, the new volunteer director who had nothing to do with this mess, would suffer.
As my family and I move to Aiken, I would be remiss if I did not share my gratitude to this community for all that you have done for us. My husband, KT, grew up here and has loved Camden his entire life. Being from up north, I was unsure if a Michigan girl would fit in. Will Camden accept me? The answer was "yes." Not only did Camden accept me, they allowed me ...
I thought the hospitality tax was to be used to bring in tourists. How will the YMCA do this? Who will be willing to travel to Camden just to work out, or to take a swim? Are the people just outside the city limits the tourists the city is counting on? Those of us who don't live in the city limits still pay the hospitality tax because we have no choice; if we want to enjoy the local businesses there, we have to just go along.
Today was the last "Lunch and Learn" at the Health Resource Center. For so many in our community, it was a sad day. The center was a valuable asset to Kershaw County and will be dearly missed. A big thank-you to the wonderful staff.
I am compelled to write this letter after reading the letter that was written by Officer Christopher Phillips in the Chronicle-Independent on Friday, May 20, 2011. He was writing from the standpoint of being a member of the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office staff. I'm writing from a citizen of Kershaw County's view. This has been a hard week for a lot of people, especially our law enforcement officers. I was really grateful, ...
My wife and I have been volunteering for more than four years at KershawHealth. On Tuesday, May 17, 24 working people were let go. Through no fault of their own they were released of their jobs. My wife and I immediately resigned because we think we are taking jobs away from those workers. The hospital is very happy with their volunteers because it doesn't cost them anything. I loved volunteering at KershawHealth but volunteers ...
"We the People." These important words are celebrated as the opening salvo in a historic experiment in constitutional democracy, an experiment that we in this state live every day. We are partners in this strong process.
At the Town Green event a couple of weekends ago, I had a lengthy conversation with Councilman Pat Partin about council's vision to grow Camden. He suggested that I get a copy of the Camden vision plan, so I would be informed. At his suggestion, I got a copy and I studied the plan recommendations which, as Mayor Jeffrey Graham stated in the Chronicle-Independent, "It encapsulates hours of citizens input along ...
I was very disappointed in your recent Noted and passed comments criticizing Gov. Haley for being insensitive in not making appointments to minorities in the proportions that you felt appropriate. I would have thought that you, as I, would have wanted her to choose the best available for the job regardless of the category into which they fell. Whether she did or not, only time will ...
The Kershaw County Ministers Association is proud to sponsor the annual community Lenten services each year. This has been a tradition of long standing.
As a concerned citizen of Kershaw County who wants and expects strong law enforcement, I am extremely disappointed in Kershaw County Councilman Sammie Tucker's actions toward our newly elected Sheriff Jim Matthews. Not only has Councilman Tucker voted against everything our new Sheriff has requested, he has recently taken his animosity towards Sheriff Matthews to a new level by blaming him and the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office as the culprit behind ...
I am concerned about the future of the recreation facilities in Kershaw County. Much has been said and many things have been proposed. The county and the city must work together for a better Kershaw County.
