Letter: Cemetery census finding unmarked graves

I am currently updating the census of Cedars Cementery on Campbell Street and have found several gravesites without funeral markers due to weather or time. I would appreciate if anyone has friends or relatives buried at Cedars Cemetery to please be sure their gravesite is properly identified.

Letter: Build American dream on knowledge, values

In America, the "land of prosperity," we all should build our dreams upon our knowledge and values. It's not what we have, but who we have in our God-given hearts that count.

Letter: Raise phone texting age to 21

If students and other anti-Constitution minded persons are truly interested in safety, there is one proposal that has not, as yet, been considered. With many people texting while driving, disrupting classes or meetings by use of phones, and generally not paying attention to anything else but a phone, would it not be logical to prohibit anyone under the age of 21 from having a phone capable of texting?

Letter: Thanks to all who made Soulicious happen

The Price House Commission would like to thank all of our volunteers who helped make the Feb. 24 Soulicious Festival such a success. Sammie Tucker headed the NAACP chefs and volunteers. The food was delicious, especially the fish, and the volunteers helped the children with all types of games.

Letter: Thanks for your letter, Rev. Wall

Thank you to Rev. Pickett Wall for his letter which takes issue with Palmetto State Armory's offensive advertising. If they truly want to have civil and intellectual conversations about the Second Amendment, their actions need to speak as loudly as their words. Where was the civility and intelligence when they had "You Lie" inscribed on the AR-15's they were selling or at Christmas when they defamed "Silent Night" by using it to advertise silencers for pistols?

Letter: Why MSC became a charter school

Most people know that education is not one-size-fits-all. But the teaching methods dating to century-old agrarian society that rely on this assumption aren't preparing our students for the jobs and challenges of the future.

Letter: ‘Dreamers’ should be allowed to stay and become citizens

I truly agree with the majority of South Carolinians to see the so called "Dreamers" -- young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children -- allowed to stay in the country with a chance to become citizens.

Letter: Living in Kershaw County

We chose to move to this community over 50 years ago because we wanted to live in or near a small SC town, with good schools, a good public recreation program, great churches and a good job. Having several choices, we came here because the community met all our wants. After we arrived, we discovered friendly folks lived here as well. We have never regretted our decision. Today I believe we are moving into an unusually great time to live here.

Letter: Run government like a good business

Most people, myself included, really don't pay a great deal of attention to the details of how our elected officials run our county government. Results, cost, and progress (?), yes, that's more interesting.

Letter: Firearm dealer’s advertising offensive

Palmetto State Armory recently released a statement in support of the Second Amendment. It included this sentence: "It is our hope that we can approach this negativity with humanity and both sides of the argument can come together and have a civil and intellectual conversation that continues to make this amazing country better."

Letter: Will the new schools being built be safe?

I see beautiful new school buildings being built in our school district. Will these schools have limited access points, bullet proof glass and other safety features?

Letter: Please, park somewhere besides Cedars Cemetery

I would like to know that this is not a race issue. I have lived in Camden my entire life and one thing that works my nerves is seeing people go and park their trucks and cars in Cedars Cemetery. I truly find that rude. They run over the graves and tombstones.

Letter: Gun control, gun violence, assault rifles

After this latest, sad, school shooting in Florida, the cries from the gun-grabbers has grown ever louder. And, they have even enrolled the children to speak on the issues of gun control and taking assault rifles off the market.

Letter: Due process, civil rights absent in family court

Having been dealing with Kershaw County Family Court for more than two years now, I find it amazing how judges and lawyers who practice family law have immunity from lawsuits or wrong doing. We all know that family courts are considered a he said/she said court. And that a person's due process or civil rights do not count in family court. But we never ask, "What about the children's rights?" Are our children's rights protected and are their best interests really being considered?
