Personally I don't like lying! I made remarks to my brother (now deceased) about Obama lying during the last presidential campaign! His answer was politicians have been lying since the very beginning of politics! This may be true! My mom told me many years ago, (be sure your sins will find you out). I don't like lies or lying and would not vote for a Democrat often as I know now!
I was blessed to be a union representative for some thirty (30) years plus years. Recently General Motors retirees' salaried workers came in mind.
I have read in this paper that our governments at the federal, state and local levels are all imposing too much taxes and not doing a good job in spending those taxes. Since I am more connected to local government, I decided to do a little research to see how we compare to our neighbors. Set out below is what I discovered. If you study these numbers, as I have, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Fair tax. Balanced budget. Debt reduction.
I think you should print the fact that some of us are sick to death of hearing about gay rights, what about our rights or don't we have any, they say and do what even they want and its suppose to be OK, but heaven forbid a Christian standing up for what they believe. I am so proud of the Chick-Fil-A man that stood up for what he believed, and I know our Lord and Savior is saying finally. What is wrong with the people of this world? I know our Lord is thoroughly disgusted.
The House Ethics Committee has cleared Governor Haley of wrong doing a second time. Charges brought this time at the behest of "Citizen Rainey" (so dubbed by this newspaper earlier in the year), and no doubt with the encouragement of the obese senator from Lexington.
Within minutes of the movie theater shooting in Colorado, the news media was on the scene, filming the resulting chaos. One of the cameramen panned across the sign on the front of the theater that said "No Concealable Weapons Allowed." No doubt he was trying to depict the irony of the message in light of the situation.
In Friday's Chronicle-Independent, Miciah Bennett's column entitled "Chick-Fil-A's stance on gay marriage not surprising" was very well thought-out, well expressed and accurate, in my opinion.
This week my daughter enrolled her three year old in swimming lessons at the recreation department swimming pool. Yesterday I got to watch a group of very focused young people teaching the children to swim. The pool and the facility were pristeen. The children were happy and well cared for. Thank you to Lydia Guinn who taught my granddaughter and to Jessica Mullins who is head of this fine program.
As of my June 23, 2012, and July 23, 2012, phone bill, I find that the city of Elgin, S.C., has begun to include a city license tax on my phone bill of $1.12. (I am not a resident of Elgin.)
As I am sure the flurry of knee-jerk and half thought rants pour in concerning the gun control laws, I draw this letter with hesitation, but certainly with hopes it will not be taken as such.
I enjoyed your article in the Chronicle's June 25th edition entitled "Camden Is The Right Place To Be." It was very refreshing to hear someone else preach the attributes of our wonderful community. I could not agree with you more. As did so many of my contemporaries, I left Camden in the early '70s seeking fame and fortune. I could have chosen the path of least resistance and found permanent employment here My desire for adventure was a larger driving force than money. My intentions were always to one day return to the Wateree River Valley. Since returning I ...
I write this letter in response to an article in your paper entitled "Episcopal Church is right to recognize gay unions." It saddens me to read once again of supposed "Christians" approving of what the Bible clearly says is wrong. "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God." Corinthians 6:9-11.
The taxpayers of Kershaw County have been given another "sewer" tax bill to pay until the end of time. A "solid waste" fee. This was a "slam dunk" proposal for the citizens of our county just like the sewer fee that is most certainly and can be called an illegal tax. This was introduced by the former council chairman. He left before the 1-cent tax was introduced. The fee for solid waste was not established before a vote was taken. This question was a foregone conclusion before a vote was taken. A question was asked some time ago to the ...
This is in response to the article in the Chronicle Independent on Friday, July 20, 2012. County Council Vice Chairman Sammie Tucker Jr. was quoted as saying he did not have "ready access" to a computer. Thus the reason he had not filed appropriate paperwork for his position on Kershaw County Council. I would like to take this opportunity to inform Mr. Tucker that we, Kershaw County, have a public library with "ready access" to computers. The hours are as follows:
The month of February is Black History Month. It's a remembrance of important people and events in the history of African-Americans. Since 1976 it ...
As the director of this United Way, I see firsthand the incredible volunteer spirit and care so many have for our community. Rural counties have ...
