CRRC thanks voters

On November 27th, the city of Camden acknowledged the defeat of the referendum vote regarding the recreation facility by passing a resolution accepting those results. The Camden Recreation Referendum Coalition (CRRC) extends congratulations and gratitude to every voter who made that happen and who confirmed our belief in the democratic process. We reflect with great satisfaction on staying the course, facing every challenge, and fighting boldly and assertively to let your voices be heard and to prove that the system works. You did it, and we thank you.

Liberty Hill fundraiser a success

The officers and members of the Liberty Hill Civic and Improvement Association (LHCIA) are delighted to report that the fundraising event held on October 27 was a complete success. The event coincided with the Community Center building's 75th anniversary. The building, located just off highway 97 in Liberty Hill, was built under the Works Progress Administration in 1937 with help from the Citizens of Liberty Hill Committee: Chairman John G. Richards (former governor of South Carolina), C.D. Cunningham, L.P. Thompson, H.L. Higgins, E.L. Jones and W.L. Cunningham -- all prominent citizens of the community at ...

A Thanksgiving for Kershaw County

The word "connection" is described in the dictionary as a set of people associated with each other….a common link, interest, or passion -- a coming together of sorts. "Help" is described as giving assistance, support, to rescue or save. "Goodness" is described as the state of being good with character, morality, and righteousness. If one were to search for the definition of "The Folks of Kershaw County," they would surely find those three words.

Good Samaritan

I just want to say "thank you." I went to get gas at Circle K in Lugoff Sunday, October 28. I used my debit card. I did not know I had lost it until Monday. My heart fell to my feet. I knew the only place I had been was Circle K. I went back Monday with a very aching heart, hoping that someone had found it. To my amazement, it was there. You found it and I know not who you are, but from a joyful heart, I say God bless you and I know that God will say ...

Governor has no class

Governor Haley knew over two weeks ago that someone still unknown had hacked into the computers at the South Carolina Department of Revenue and that the personal information of approximately 3.6 million taxpayers had been compromised. She finally decided to tell those taxpayers last Friday afternoon, the time when all bad news is dumped.

Museum article should help

Early this AM (Friday), I picked up a copy of your paper and I was absolutely delighted that you wrote such a fine article detailing my proposal to bringing my collections back to Camden in the form of a local museum. It was an outstanding article. If we are successful in opening this downtown museum, it will be largely due to the article you wrote! I appreciated this more than you will ever know.

Patriot’s Landing?

I feel compelled to bring to your reader's attention a slight correction regarding the photograph showing the dedication of the Patriot's Landing. The loyalist fort captured by troops commanded by Thomas Sumter was called Cary's Fort. It was located on the west side of the river fronting the old ferry. That ferry was located about one mile south of current highway bridge. The area designated as Patriot's Landing did not exist as a landing until the construction of the first bridge near that point in 1878. There is no historical significance with the spot dating back ...
