Lugoff-Elgin Senior Mary Carolyn DeBruhl of Lugoff has danced away with the title of Miss Darlington County 2003. The Miss South Carolina preliminary was held at the Center Theatre in Hartsville. She performed a cloggin routine to "Banjo Fantasy" and won the talent award as well as the crown. Contestants also competed in interview, swimsuit and evening gown.

Lon D. Outen has been named the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services (DPPPS) 1990 Supervisor of the Year for Region IV. Outen is agent in charge of the department's Kershaw County office. The award was presented at the department's recent annual meeting in Columbia. Outen joined DPPPS in 1985 as a Probation/Parole Agent I. He held the position of Agent II prior to being named agent in charge in 1988.
