Nelson, Demons kick off Olean’s season with 5-0 loss

While some in Kershaw County have griped and moaned about the unseasonable spring weather, when you are from Upstate New York and finally see grass on the baseball field well, let Randy Stokes describe the scene at Optimist Field Monday morning.

Bowers finally gets run support and win as L-E tops RV, 11-3

Maybe, this is a sign that Zac Bowers' luck is changing for the better. Bowers has been Lugoff-Elgin's poster boy for hard-luck starters. Tuesday, however, that all took a positive turn as the junior was backed by 11 runs on eight hits as the Demons evened their Region 4-4A record at 2-2 with an 11-3 victory over visiting Ridge View. The win was the first in four decisions for the right-hander who, in his first ...

L-E’s Blizzard fires second perfect game

If it is Tuesday, then Erin Blizzard must be throwing a perfect game. For the second straight Tuesday night, the Lugoff-Elgin sophomore was virtually untouchable as she fired a five-inning perfect game in the Lady Demons' 10-0 win over visiting Ridge View. One week earlier, Blizzard was perfect in a 12-0 victory against Richland Northeast. Blizzard (5-6) fanned 11 of the 15 batters she faced in her second gem which helped James Marlow's charges to ...

Demon netters cruise past Ridge View, 6-0

So much for having a letdown. One day after an emotional win over rival Camden, the Lugoff-Elgin tennis team had little trouble in handing visiting Ridge View a 6-0 loss in a Tuesday afternoon match played on the L-E courts. The victory gave the Demons a 3-2 mark after the first go-through in Region 4-4A play while hiking their overall record to 5-3 heading into Thursday's conference match at Spring Valley. Coach Edward Rickwood's squad ...

Demons top RNE to improve playoff stock

Sometimes, what looks, on paper, to be a tough week was not so bad after all. Take, for instance, the Lugoff-Elgin boys' tennis team. Last week, Coach Edward Rickwood's improved Demons won once in three outings. But you will not hear the team's head coach complaining with his team's effort and, performances. This week, the Demons will, again, play three matches in five days, starting with Monday's win over Camden. "Despite our two losses last ...

Error-prone Demons fall to RNE, 5-2

That grimace on the face of Randy Stokes spoke volumes. Standing a few steps beyond the first base bag, the Lugoff-Elgin head baseball coach talked, in halting sentences, about what he had just witnessed. For a team which had been shut out in their previous two games, Tuesday's 5-2 loss to visiting Richland Northeast was hardly a step in the right direction. In fact, Stokes said, his team regressed on a night in which the ...

Bengals clamp down on Demons

You get the feeling that Randy Stokes would rather Blythewood had scored its four runs on a grand slam than the way they did in handing visiting Lugoff-Elgin a 4-0 loss last Friday night.
