Boykin artist wins award

Denise L. Greer of Boykin was awarded with the Guy Lipscomb Memorial Award which included a cash prize of $600 for her painting, "Daybreak." The award was given on Oct. 2 during an award luncheon and art reception for the South Carolina Watermedia Society (SCWS) in Rock Hill. There were 171 entries and only 75 accepted into the show. "Daybreak" was also chosen to be part of the 2011 SCWS Traveling show. During the next year, Greer's painting will tour all the museums in South Carolina until September 2011.

Camden Community Concert Band gears up for Sunday concert in Rectory Square

French Horn player Jacob Adelman practices with the Camden Community Concert Band (CCCB) in preparation for their fall concert. The CCCB begins its 32nd season this Sunday with a concert in Rectory Square Park. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Musical selections will include "Grand March of the First Mississippi Volunteers," "Colonel White's Quickstep," (both written by CCCB member, Emmett Anglin) "Beguine for Band," "Disney Razzamatazz," "Summer in Rio," "Tin Pan Alley," "Tango Fandango" and "The Maestro."

Camden native earns prestigious award

Claire Bryant, a Camden native, was named the recipient of the 2010 Robert Sherman - McGraw Hill Award for Music Education and Community Outreach during the Gina Bachauer Concert in Juilliard's Paul Hall in New York on Sept. 22.
