Filing period ends for most 2012 offices
The filing period for state, multi-county, countywide and less than countywide offices came to a close noon Friday.
Ogburn announces for Camden City Council
Longtime community volunteer and organizer Peggy Ogburn recently announced her candidacy for Camden City Council. Ogburn has been a resident of Camden since 1980. During the years, she said, she has been involved in and led numerous, varied civic activities and projects designed to enhance quality of life for Camden and Kershaw County.
Funderburk to run for re-election to House District 52
S.C. Rep. Laurie Slade Funderburk has announced she will seek re-election to House District 52. The district encompasses most of Kershaw County and includes the greater Camden area, Lugoff and a portion of the Elgin community.
McLeod joins race for Senate District 35
E.B. "Mac" McLeod of Pinewood, a former state representative, has announced his bid as a Democratic candidate for S.C. Senate District 35. After redistricting, District 35 includes parts of Kershaw, Sumter, Lee and Richland counties.
Irick seeks return to school board
Matt Irick has announced his plans to seek re-election to Seat 7 on the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees. He is a certified public accountant and a partner with the accounting firm of Sheheen, Hancock, & Godwin LLP in Camden.

Tucker owes state ethics commission
Kershaw County Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. is in violation of a S.C. Ethics Commission (SCEC) decision ordering him to pay $21,000 in fines and late-filing fees. The Chronicle-Independent discovered the order as part of a check on SCEC filings by Kershaw County elected officials and candidates as the 2012 election season gets underway. The order is listed in the SCEC's Complaints Resolved Index.
Citizen Rainey
John Rainey is wearing a coat and tie as he strides slowly across the grass of his 17-acre estate -- called Fox Watch Farm -- which is just outside the small town of Camden. It's after midday, and the sun is turning the nearby dogwood trees gold.
