Historic Camden to host festivals, comic convention

Historic Camden will come alive with a weekend of conferences and festivals on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. These include the Charles Dickens Festival, the Krampus Festival, and the Camden SC Comicon.

$40,000 match offered for Fostering Foster donations

Fostering Foster Animal Rescue recently announced a surprise major gift match for charitable donations through the end of 2018. For the second year in a row, an anonymous Kershaw County family is offering to match all individual and business donations through the end of the year up to $40,000.

USC launches equine industry study

A horse is a horse of course, but horses are also an economic force. A recent American Horse Council study finds that the U.S. equine industry is responsible for about $122 billion in economic impact and 1.74 million jobs on a full-time basis, that generate $79 billion in total salaries, wages and benefits.

Fred Florian (left) Chairman of the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, presents the first Tootsie Roll to Camden Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford, who made the first donation this year. The annual fundraiser is held the first week in October of every year. Members of the Knights of Columbus will be at area businesses all week giving away Tootsie Rolls and accepting donations for the Kershaw County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs (KCBDSN). All funds will go to help people with intellectual disabilities here in Kershaw County. Last year, the Knights raised $3,372 for the KCBDSN.
