SCDNR: Don’t adopt a ‘lost’ fawn

If a deer fawn is found alone in the woods, leave it there. Its mother has not abandoned it; she is probably nearby. Removing a fawn from the forest is also illegal because the animal is being taken outside the legal season for taking deer, which is the hunting season.

KCARC is area source for ‘radio hams’

Despite the internet, cellphones, email and modern communications, every year, entire regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been amateur radio. These radio operators, often called "hams," provide backup communications for everything from the American Red Cross to the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, and even the International Space Station. "Hams" will join with thousands of other amateur radio operators showing their emergency capabilities this Saturday and Sunday.

S-LRCOG seeks Silver-Haired Legislature candidates

The Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments, serving Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter Counties, is seeking candidates to serve on the region's Silver-Haired Legislature. The Silver-Haired Legislature is a statewide volunteer organization with representatives from each county who meet annually to discuss and prioritize issues of concern to South Carolina's senior adults age 60 and older.

The Kershaw County School District (KCSD) recently received the United Way of Kershaw County's (UWKC) highest volunteer award for its exemplary volunteer service to the citizens of Kershaw County. KCSD is only the third organization to win the Jake Watson Award in its 26-year history.
