Mulberry Market Bake Shop owners Peter and Fran Rowland make the pastries to the delight of a number of Camden residents. Come March 29th anyone staying or living in Camden will be able to sit and visit with hall of famer Larry Doby and statesman Bernard Baruch. Not with the actual men of course, but with beautiful bronze statues of these influential men from Camden.

The Kershaw County Recreation Department is currently registering for the Youth Baseball Leagues. Boys and girls must be four by May 1, 2013 to play baseball. Girls must be seven by May 1, 2013 to play softball. Girls must be 10 years old by Jan. 1, 2013 to play Fast Pitch. Registration Fee is $32.

Having been a soldier, artist Dot Goodwin has a knack for combining the worlds of creativity and discipline. Her past military experience includes service in the U.S. Army as an arts and crafts specialist after having completed basic training. She then continued her work in the Army as a civil servant in the Army Recreation Services division.

Didato to be focus of multicultural exhibit
Chronicle-Independent Sports Editor Tom Didato will be the subject of this year's Black History Month multicultural exhibit at the Kershaw County Library. The exhibit will be on display starting Friday through the end of the month. A reception in Didato's honor will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.
NWS issues winter weather advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday for Kershaw County, along with Fairfield and Newberry counties. The hazard types include freezing rain and sleet, but only expect ice accumulations of less than .05 inch. Rain will freeze on contact in locations below freezing and lead to hazardous travel conditions. Bridges and overpasses will be especially vulnerable to ice accumulation. Jak Smyrl collection purchased by USC library
The University of South Carolina (USC) Libraries is now home to a collection of more than 5,000 images, plus correspondence, sketchbooks, and even early elementary-school artwork Camden's Oscar Jackson "Jak" Smyrl, The State newspaper's first staff artist, who passed away in 2007.
