'Help End Hunger'

During the month of May, the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) and Lugoff Dollar General location teamed up through a "Help End Hunger" campaign to collect and distribute food items within the Lugoff community. Members of the Lugoff community and the surrounding areas were asked to drop off unopened non-perishable food items at the Lugoff Dollar General. These food items will be collected at the store and picked up by LFD firefighters to be distributed to needy families in the Lugoff area. Veggie Station opens shop in Camden

The Veggie Station, located on 2406-B Broad St., recently opened shop. The owners, Chris and Ann McCormick of Cassatt, originally started with a vegetable truck making stops around Camden to sell produce two years ago. The business has now expanded to it's new location which is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The McCormicks still operate the truck around town occasionally. The Veggie Station sells produce and specialty items such as jams, jellies, fruits, vegetables, hot sauces, glazes, Charleston tea, Blenheim ginger ale, Amish noodles ...

I saw some pictures from the royal wedding. The bride was very pretty. But she was out-done by some of the guests. These ladies wore hats that were -- well, different. Someone explained to me that one of the important things is for the ladies to wear a hat. It must be different from the one she wore to the last wedding she attended. I guess that she will wear a dress, perhaps even a new one. But the hat is the thing.

Great Falls Propane LLC sets up shop in Lugoff

Kershaw County has a new propane gas provider, located at 3 Roseborough Road in Lugoff across from Sonic on U.S. 1. Great Falls Propane LLC has recently purchased and transformed the old Lugoff Flowers building into a state-of-the-art, interactive gas appliance showroom.

Storage One has opened its second Kershaw County location at 338 U.S. 521, behind Black River Shell in Camden. The facility and the original Storage One location, at 187 U.S. 601 S. in Lugoff, are owned by Josh Denton. Ann Marie Holland is the manager. The Storage One facility in Camden offers 24/7 access through an automated kiosk. This "automated self storage" kiosk allows customers to handled payments or obtain rentals. Adams re-appointed to state conservation bank board

Weston Adams III of Camden has been re-appointed to the board of the South Carolina Conservation Bank for a four-year term. Adams, an attorney with the Columbia law firm of McAngus Goudelock & Courie (MG&C), currently serves as the chairman of the conservation bank, an agency of state government.

Speaking of Sherman

Harvey Teal (standing), whose Kershaw County Historical Society columns appear monthly in the Chronicle-Independent, speaks to some 85 people at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church on Sunday, one of two speakers on the topic of Civl War Union Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman's March through Kershaw County, via Liberty Hill, 150 years ago. Teal kept the large audience interested with displays and descriptions of local artificats.
