Firefighters train at Yutaka

More than 50 firefighters from across the county used a training drill March 17 at South Carolina Yutaka Technologies to prepare for real-life emergencies.

American pride

The James Leroy Belk Post 17, American Legion, recently responded to two flag-related requests in the community. The Lugoff Fire Department asked the post for a replacement flag to fly at the station and Midway Elementary School requested a new halyard (rope) to replace the worn one on its flagpole.

Stover Middle School band honors

The Leslie M. Stover Middle School Band program reports an outstanding season. The band began the year with a successful winter concert performance, which featured instrumental soloists and seasonal music. This year, 50 Stover band students won chairs in the All-Region Band, more than any other school in the region. The school also had six students win chairs in the prestigious All-State Band: (bass clarinetist) Andrew Place; (snare) Andrew Walker; (trumpet alternate) Ansley Potter; (trumpet alternate) Erin Blizzard; (trombone alternate) Jessica Lumpkin; and (tuba alternate) Amber Vance. AgSouth reports strong year

AgSouth Farm Credit CEO Bill Spigener has announced that the customer-owned cooperative, with an office in Kershaw County, had net earnings of $6.7 million during the fourth quarter of 2010. Year-to-date earnings total $35.9 million and exceed the association's earnings of Dec. 31, 2009, by more than $9.7 million.
