Sheriff McCaskill honored

Retiring Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by Gov. Mark Sanford for his service to the community and South Carolina. He was nominated for the award – the highest civilian honor for community service -- by S.C. Rep. Lester P. Branham, who represents Florence County. Waffle House fire

Around 9:40 p.m. Dec. 22, the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) was dispatched to a structural fire at the Waffle House restaurant on U.S. 601 in Lugoff. Ladder 10 and Engine 10 arrived on the scene to find a light smoke haze throughout the inside of the restaurant and all occupants evacuated, according to LFD Chief Dennis K. Ray. Annual fireworks display

The Lake Wateree Association (LWA) and the Wateree Homeowners Association Fairfield County (WHOA) will sponosr their annual Fourth of July fireworks display on July 4 around 9:15 p.m. LWA officials said the best place to view is from Clearwater Cove Marina.
