Q: What or who inspired you to go into law enforcement and how did you get your start?
The Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce rescheduled its monthly board of directors meeting from Thursday to next week after a forecast of possible inclement weather.
Beverly Brevard was selected as January's "Employee of the Month" for the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office. Brevard has worked in law enforcement for 22 years, beginning in 1989 as a 911 dispatcher. She began working directly for the sheriff's office in 1995, and now works in the records and sex offender registry.

Department of Commerce and legislative leaders. S.C. Gov. Q: What's your favorite aspect of your job as recreation director?
Residents are proud of their Pine Creek neighborhood in Camden, which was recognized by Firewise Communities/USA, part of the National Firewise Communities program, for its fire hazard awareness. Pine Creek met several standards to receive the honor, including enlisting an urban interface specialist with the S.C. Forestry Commission to complete a community assessment; sponsoring a local Firewise Task Force Committee; and submitting an annual report to Firewise Communities that documents continuing compliance with the program. As AT&T announced the availability of its third generation (3G) mobile broadband network in Camden in early December, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content to customers in the area, two Kershaw County legislators were recognized for their contributions toward helping such technological progress to be made.
Kershaw County now has a DAV/VA van to transport veterans to and from the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

Baseball, softball registration starts Feb. 1
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is scheduled to roll into South Carolina at the end of March, but several local children got to see a small preview of the fun Wednesday at the Kershaw County Library. "Gigi" the clown appeared at the library and read the children a book about the circus, showed them how to juggle and spin a plate on a stick, and performed a magic trick.
Earl Suttle, an author and motivational speaker with Leadership Success International, shared various ways leaders can improve the overall atmosphere in their workplace during a mentoring training/workshop hosted by the United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC) on Monday. Suttle's topic, "Enjoying Excellence: Becoming the greatest you can be," focused on creating "happiness in the workplace." He explained that a happier atmosphere provides employees with more energy and focus to complete their jobs. The training/workshop took place at the historic Robert Mills Courthouse.
