Sheriff McCaskill honored

Retiring Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by Gov. Mark Sanford for his service to the community and South Carolina. He was nominated for the award – the highest civilian honor for community service -- by S.C. Rep. Lester P. Branham, who represents Florence County. The award was presented by McCaskill's sister, Hope, at the sheriff's office holiday party. McCaskill, a life-long Kershaw County resident, joined the sheriff's office as a deputy in 1979. Pillows tied up with love

Nannie Seegars made 220 fleece pillows for residents at the Springdale Nursing Home. Her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, distributed the pillows to residents and employees on November 15. Seegars wanted to make the pillows to show her appreciation for the nursing home. "Mama has been working on these pillows, tied up with love, for about 10 months and it has been a true labor of love. We pray that God blesses each angel who receives a pillow," Seegar's daughter, Pat Collins said.
