Come March 29th anyone staying or living in Camden will be able to sit and visit with hall of famer Larry Doby and statesman Bernard Baruch. Not with the actual men of course, but with beautiful bronze statues of these influential men from Camden.

Chronicle-Independent Sports Editor Tom Didato will be the subject of this year's Black History Month multicultural exhibit at the Kershaw County Library. The exhibit will be on display starting Friday through the end of the month. A reception in Didato's honor will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday for Kershaw County, along with Fairfield and Newberry counties. The hazard types include freezing rain and sleet, but only expect ice accumulations of less than .05 inch. Rain will freeze on contact in locations below freezing and lead to hazardous travel conditions. Bridges and overpasses will be especially vulnerable to ice accumulation. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 30s overnight.

The Kershaw County Forest Landowners will hold their quarterly meeting today at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Clemson Extension Homemaker's Building located at the corner of DeKalb and Church Streets in Camden.
Dr. Lonnie Randolph Jr., president of the South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, will be the guest speaker for the Camden-Kershaw County NAACP's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service program today at 5:30 p.m. at Camden First United Methodist Church.
Earl Suttle, an author and motivational speaker with Leadership Success International, shared various ways leaders can improve the overall atmosphere in their workplace during a mentoring training/workshop hosted by the United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC) on Monday. Suttle's topic, "Enjoying Excellence: Becoming the greatest you can be," focused on creating "happiness in the workplace." He explained that a happier atmosphere provides employees with more energy and focus to complete their jobs. The training/workshop took place at the historic Robert Mills Courthouse.
