The Kershaw County Recreation Department is currently registering for the Youth Baseball Leagues. Boys and girls must be four by May 1, 2013 to play baseball. Girls must be seven by May 1, 2013 to play softball. Girls must be 10 years old by Jan. 1, 2013 to play Fast Pitch. Registration Fee is $32.

Billy Ammons: one Hall of a coach

As hard as it may seem to imagine, there was a time in which Billy Ammons wondered if he would see a fourth season as the head football coach at his high school alma mater, never mind leading Camden High School (CHS) to the 1990 AAA state football championship 15 seasons later.

Didato recognized at multicultural event

Sometimes considered a "rock star" by young athletes and certainly recognized as a "great gift" to the community, local sports writer and commentator Tom Didato was honored Sunday at a multicultural history celebration at the Kershaw County Library highlighting his works and writings.

Sarah Bernhardts are only made once a year in Camden: the week of Valentine's Day. Mulberry Market Bake Shop owners Peter and Fran Rowland make the pastries to the delight of a number of Camden residents. Named after French actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923), these delicious treats consist of an almond macaroon base which are filled with mocha butter cream (or "chocolate ganache" if you want to be fancy), and dipped in marvelous melted chocolate.

Come March 29th anyone staying or living in Camden will be able to sit and visit with hall of famer Larry Doby and statesman Bernard Baruch. Not with the actual men of course, but with beautiful bronze statues of these influential men from Camden.

Having been a soldier, artist Dot Goodwin has a knack for combining the worlds of creativity and discipline. Her past military experience includes service in the U.S. Army as an arts and crafts specialist after having completed basic training. She then continued her work in the Army as a civil servant in the Army Recreation Services division.
