Getting closer

Work is progressing on a new building in Springdale Plaza. The 6,600 square foot building, which is being built to house three retail spaces, faces U.S. 1 near Springdale Drive adjacent to Arby's. The building will be home to Firehouse Subs, Kay Jewelers and Starbuck's. While the outside of the building looks substantially complete, crews are working on the inside; in fact, the city recently issued a permit to retrofit part of the space for a restaurant. If all goes as planned, the three businesses should be open for business by the fall.

Chamber hands out awards at annual gala

The Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce held its 107th annual awards gala and barbecue on May 12 at its headquarters at the historic Robert Mills Courthouse. Preceding a meal catered by Old South Catery, the chamber handed out a number of awards, including two Business Partner of the Year awards for assisting the Kershaw County School district; small, medium and large Businesses of the Year; the William F. Nettles Award for furthering chamber objectives; and the President's Award.
