Nelson Lindsay, who served as Kershaw County's director of economic development for 14 years, is now working for the S.C. Department of Commerce. Lindsay joined the agency Oct. 20 as its director of global business development.

The economic development future of Kershaw County apparently continues to improve, as the agenda for Tuesday's Kershaw County Council meeting includes a closed-door executive session to discuss an item being referred to at this time only as "Project Stagecoach," which is to include an investment of at least $88 million. A resolution and first reading of an ordinance are also listed.
The S.C. Automobile Dealers Association (SCADA), its board of directors and Lugoff Toyota recently granted a $2,000 Scholarship for Automotive Excellence to 2015 Andrew Jackson High School graduate Phillip Russell Byrd Jr., of Kershaw.
Following a national trend, and to perform as efficiently as possible, the Chronicle-Independent (C-I) will transition from publishing three times a week to a twice a week publication schedule. Beginning with its Friday, Oct. 2 issue, the C-I will begin publishing semi-weekly, each Tuesday and Friday. The first Tuesday edition will be published Oct. 6.
First Community Bank will recognizes its 20th anniversary today with customer and employee celebrations in its banking offices. The bank opened its first two offices in 1995 in Lexington and Forest Acres and now operates 15 full-service locations -- including Camden -- with more than 200 employees in the Midlands of South Carolina; Aiken; and Augusta, Ga. in addition to First Community Bank Mortgage and First Community Financial Consultants, a financial planning and investment advisory division.
