The Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce presented its President's Award to Drs. Ron and Cindy Prestage, capping off its 104th Annual Awards Gala at the Robert Mills Courthouse on Friday. The Prestages are owners of Prestage Farms, which operates in seven states with 1,900 employees, including 170 in South Carolina.

Camden Media Co. purchases The Camden Equestrian magazine

In a joint statement, Mike Mischner and LRT Consulting LLC announced today that The Camden Equestrian magazine would be joining the Camden Media Co. family of publications. The Camden Equestrian was founded in 2008 and has been owned and published by LRT Consulting LLC since 2013. LRT Consulting LLC is owned and operated by Camden resident Lydia R. Towell.

Springdale Antiques closed, but Gibson still restoring furniture

Parker Gibson may have closed the store bearing the name of his business, Springdale Antiques, almost two months ago, but he hasn't retired. Gibson, who turned 73 in September, is still doing some of what he's done for more than four decades: restore antebellum Southern furniture. He only closed the store for health reasons that he prefers to keep private.

SAFE returns $2 million to members

SAFE Federal Credit Union members received extra benefits December 31, 2013, when bonus dividends and loan interest rebates totaling $2 million were posted to accounts. Deposit accounts, including certificates, received a 20 percent bonus based on dividends received in 2013. Loan accounts (except credit cards) received a 7 percent interest rebate based on total interest paid in 2013.

Chamber changing Community Pride Award procedure

The Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce wants to recognize businesses that have improved the exterior look of their buildings and is asking for community input. The chamber has presented Community Pride Awards in the past, but Chamber Director Liz Horton told the chamber board of directors at its Jan. 16 meeting that changes are being made in the process.

Video aimed at attracting new industries to Central South Carolina MegaSite

The Kershaw County Economic Development Office recently produced and released a promotional video touting the advantages of basing a business at one of the county's major industrial sites. The 4-minute 28-second video showing the potential of the Central South Carolina MegaSite, is on YouTube and has been sent via e-mail to industries the economic development office hopes to impress.

C-I announces newsroom reorganization

Camden Media Co. is proud to announce the return of Jim Tatum to the staff of the Chronicle-Independent. Tatum, who most recently worked for the Summerville Journal Scene, begins working as the C-I's senior staff writer Monday. In addition, Tenell Felder is being promoted to design editor, a reflection of her excellent design work for several Camden Media Co. publications.
