Families were a focus for Col. Dale Hall, chief of staff for the South Carolina National Guard, at the 2012 Veterans Day Observance held Friday at American Legion James Leroy Belk Post No. 17.

Revolutionary War Field Days, 2012

The 42nd annual Revolutionary War Field Days took place, Nov. 3-4, at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. Cannons announced each day's 1:30 p.m. "battle." Guests were treated to various activities including Colonial women demonstrating 18th century skills and blacksmiths working the forge. Scheduled events included a period fashion show, fife & drum concerts, artillery demonstrations and a discussion on cavalry during the Revolution.

Capt. Dwight DeLoach, a Camden native, recently took command of Company C of the S.C. National Guard's (SCNG) 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion headquartered in Camden. Capt. Octavious K. Billy Bell spent 19 years helping vets get their benefits

Billy Bell is a Korean War veteran who came home and began supporting his fellow veterans by joining the American Legion. For 19 of the many years since, he served as Kershaw County's Veterans Affair officer. He retired Jan. 1 and was honored by American Legion Post No. 17 -- of which he is a member -- in early April.
