Revolutionary War Field Days, 2012

The 42nd annual Revolutionary War Field Days took place, Nov. 3-4, at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. Cannons announced each day's 1:30 p.m. "battle." Guests were treated to various activities including Colonial women demonstrating 18th century skills and blacksmiths working the forge. Scheduled events included a period fashion show, fife & drum concerts, artillery demonstrations and a discussion on cavalry during the Revolution.

Our place in history

A resident of Lake Wateree since 1983 and a former member of the Kershaw County Planning and Zoning Commission, Donald Lang knows the local landscape well. He was involved in the placement of the original signage on the lake to help orientate boaters, and was also instrumental in the development of the Wateree Recreational Area installed by Shaw Air Force Base.

Korean War veterans honored by Legion

The Korean War is sometimes called "the forgotten war," but James LeRoy Belk Post No. 17 of the American Legion in Camden held a special recognition for veterans of that conflict Oct. 18. Post Commander Clay Carruth asked all Korean War veterans in attendance to stand and be recognized before offering some remarks.
