County hoops teams return to court tonight
The preliminaries are over for Kershaw County basketball teams. After more than a month of non-conference and holiday tournament games, the contests which will decide the fates of the six local squads begins tonight with Camden, Lugoff-Elgin and North Central all kicking off their 10-game conference slates. LCSC soccer hosts Saturday tryouts
The second day of tryouts and an informational meeting for boys and girls wishing to play for the LCSC-Kershaw soccer team in the spring season will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29 at the KCRD soccer fields. The meeting/tryouts will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 10:30 a.m.

Not that the gifts have been unwrapped and/or returned, the tree is being dismantled and parents are counting the days until school re-opens next week, it is time for post-Christmas tournaments for a majority of Kershaw County winters sports teams.

After having been split into four classifications --- five, if you include the Big 16 in 4A --- the South Carolina High School League is considering splitting its member football schools into five classifications beginning with the 2014-15 academic year.

Using a balanced scoring attack and a 17-7 third quarter run, the Camden boys' basketball team snapped a three-game skid with a 62-40 win over host Lakewood on Friday night in Sumter.

Dogs roll past Crestwood; NC drops pair
Senior guard Josh Council scored a season-best 24 points to lead Camden to a 58-44 victory over visiting Crestwood in a Tuesday night contest played between the two former conference rivals.
