After being runners-up in 2011, Powers and Gregory Heating and Cooling won the 2012 KCRD Mite League girls' softball title with a 12-1 record. Coaches Frankie Robinson and Benjie Krenz said they could not have been more proud of their young ladies.

The Lugoff-Elgin High School volleyball team will head to Camden on Thursday for the first of two meetings between the two cross-river rivals.
As if the summer could not get any better for the Camden-based Team Ballers AAAU youth basketball franchise, a pair of the squads closed out a memorable 2012 summer campaign by capturing a pair of championship in the End of Summer Youth Championship Tournament, sponsored by Tournaments R Us, in Atlanta on Aug. 3-5.

Dr. Joseph Thomas Moore, author of Pride Against Prejudice, which was updated and published in 2012 as Larry Doby: The Struggle of the American League's First Black Player, will present a program on the life of the Camden native on Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. inside the Robert Mills Courthouse in Camden.
