Rain and cold weather forced the North Central softball team to postpone games with Lee Central and Westwood early last week. Not having played those contests may have played a factor in the Lady Knights’ 7-1 loss in Cheraw on Friday.

The host Lady Braves used a pair of singles and were helped along by an NC error in a four-run second frame which paved the way to the win.

The Knights broke through in the fourth as a triple from Peyton Holley was followed by an RBI single from Kali Tomlin which closed the gap to 4-1.

The visitors had other opportunities as they nine runners on base but just could not push across any more runs. Cheraw added a pair of runs in the bottom of the runs in the fourth and a solo run in the bottom of the sixth to end the Lady Knights’ hopes of a comeback.

North Central fell to 0-2 in Region 4-AA play with the loss and 6 -3 overall on the year.

The Lady Knights were led by Peyton Holley with two hits and scoring the only run for the visitors. Abby Outlaw and Kali Tomlin each had a hit in the four-hit NC offensive attack.

Lady Demons doubled up by Hartsville: Two nights after having upended visiting Hartsville in their first Region 6-4A game of the season, the Lugoff-Elgin softball team came out on the wrong end of a 6-3 decision in Hartsville on Thursday in the second and final meeting between the two conference rivals.

Both sides stood at 1-1 in league play
