Buford hands NC first Region 4 loss

THIRD-YEAR L-E head coach Katie Ham will lead the Lady Demons into Camden tonight for the first of two meetings between the cross-river rivals.

North Central suffered its first Region 4-AA loss in volleyball on Thursday as the Lady Knights were tripped up in Buford in a fifth set tie-breaker.

Andy Johnson’s charges fell in the first set, 26-24, before evening the match by taking the second contest, 25-20. NC then went up, 2-1, by winning the third set, 25-23. The host Lady Yellow Jackets tied the match by taking the fourth set, 25-16. They then put the long evening to bed with a 15-7 victory in the tie-breaking fifth set.

North Central fell for the first time in four conference matches and dropped to 5-2 overall.

Alayna Johnson had 17 kills with 15 digs. Madison Dixon was next with 14 kills to go along with24 digs and an ace.

Aaliyah White triggered the Lady Knight offense with 26 assists to go with 16 digs and a pair of aces. Peyton Holley and Tierra Preston had 23 digs each with Holley adding three assists and three service aces. McKenna Arrants added five kills, a block and three digs toward the NC cause.

The Lady Knights open a four-match homestand tonight when Chesterfield comes to The Castle in Boonetown for a 6:30 p.m. Region 4-AA pairing.

Lady Demons knock off North Augusta: Lugoff-Elgin added a non-region win to its resume by going on the road to defeat 5A North Augusta on Thursday, 4-1.

Katie Ham’s troops improved to 3-2 overall in dual matches with the victory.

“The ladies stepped up their game and executed through long rallies,” Ham said of her team’s effort.

Junior setter/hitter Sarah Turner had six kills, 42 assists and 15 digs. Senior Libero Natalie Taylor ended the night with three aces and 16 digs for the Lady Demons while classmate Madi Campbell had nine kills. Senior Summer Rasberry had four kills while senior P.A. Wells had 12 digs. 

Freshman middle blocker Kennedy Robinson contributed 11 kills, seven blocks and nine digs. Junior Emily Nettles had three kills and junior hitter Sydney Ochoa had four kills and two blocks. 

The Lady Demons will be back in action tonight at Camden High School. The junior varsity match kicks things off at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity match at 7 p.m.
