Vengas, Lawing lead CMA harriers to victory

David Vengas led seven Camden Military Academy runners who finished in the top 14 places as the Spartans opened their 2018 cross country season by winning a four-team meet in McBee last Tuesday.

Vengas, a sophomore, completed the 3.1-mile run in a time of 18:32 as the Spartans scored a team-low 30 points. Cheraw was next with 51 points while Chesterfield and McBee rounded out the scoring with 74 and 77 points, respectively.

Sophomore Sammy Lawing finished third overall for head coach John Heflin’s troops in a time of 19:41 while seniors Steven Long and William Hyatt were seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 20:16 and 21:12. Spartan senior Theodore Martin (12:49) was 11th with classmates Joseph Barrierre and Alex Harbaugh finishing 13th and 14th with respective times of 22:07 and 22:39.
