Spartans take eighth at Highlander Invitational

David Venegas finished ninth in a field of 169 runners to help the Camden Military Academy cross country team to an eight-place finish in the 18-team Highland Invitational hosted by Heathwood Hall.

Venegas finished the 3.1-mile trek in a time of 17:28.67 and was the fastest finisher for John Heflin’s runners.

The Spartans ended the day with 206 points. Summerville won the race with 70 points, nine better than Spartanburg Day School.

After Venegas, William Hyatt was next for CMA with his time of 18:51.16 being good for 36th place. Follwing him to the line for the Spartans were Sammy Lawing in 40th (18:57.04), Theodore Martin in 59th place (19:48.57) and Steven Long (19:56.77) in 62nd.
