Lainey Williams, a rising third grader at Camden Elementary School (CES),  recently competed in karate nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is the national champion for kata (forms) and won bronze in kubodo (weapons) and kumite (sparring). This qualified her for Junior Olympics.  She is the superregional champion in the 8-year-old female category for kubodo and won silver in kumite, and bronze in kata. She is also the North Carolina Champion in all three events. Lainey studies karate at Carolina Family Karate under Shihan Bob and Sensei Matt. All five members of her team placed in the top four nationals, including one national champion in kata for 9-year-old females. Lainey is the daughter of Camden High School Assistant Principal Lesley Corner and is a SEAGUL student at CES.
