Historic Camden and members of the Camden Community Concert Band (CCCB) will host the third annual Patriots, Picnic & Pops celebration at Historic Camden on Sunday, July 2.

The event, the brainchild of former Historic Camden Curator Joanna Craig and CCCB member William R. “Rusty” Major, has become a popular, family-oriented community celebration of America’s Independence Day. Launched in 2015, the event is gaining popularity every year, organizers said.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity to gather together as a community to celebrate and commemorate the efforts that early Camden citizens made for our country’s independence,” Historic Camden Executive Director Haley Brazier said. “We are excited to work with Joseph Kershaw descendants City Councilwoman Joanna Craig and Rusty Major to put this event on for Camden.”

The free, family event will be held at the Kershaw-Cornwallis House. There will be English Country Dancers, old-fashioned kids games and family picnics (also concessions for sale), as well as a special patriotic program. At 7 p.m., the Camden Community Concert Band will let loose a rousing concert of patriotic songs and American standards.

The event will be cancelled if there is rain.

Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site is located at 222 Broad St., Camden. For more information call 432-9841, email or visit the website at
