Mr. Ralph Gandy, 77, of Columbia, surrounded by his loved ones, went home to be his Lord and his beloved wife on Thursday, February 9th, 2017.  Born on February 27, 1939 in Kershaw, SC to the late Walter and Minnie Taylor Gandy, Ralph was the youngest of 14 children and was often teased as being a “mama’s boy” because he was the baby and loved his momma so!

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Dunah Gandy, parents and siblings Mary, Mazie, Coleman, Jessie, Essie, Carl, Myrtle, Vera, Ward, and Earl.  Ralph is survived by brothers, Otis and Charles (Mary Lou); sister, Ruth (Gene); many wonderful nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Ralph spent time in the Army as a medic, then built a career in Insurance management with Farm Bureau while he attended University of South Carolina and graduated with honors.  Ralph and his wife Dunah made time to enjoy life by traveling the world with family.  Following his retirement, Ralph joined his wife at Providence Hospitals where they both would volunteer two times a week in the hospital’s gift shop.  He truly enjoyed giving back to a mission of God’s work.

A memorial service for Ralph will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson’s Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia.  There will be food and fellowship following the service in a designated family room at Thompson’s with a book of celebration of Ralph.  His family appreciates the love shared.
