FILOT, presentations before KCC Tuesday

Kershaw County Council will hold public hearing and consider third and final reading of a fee-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement for RJR Land Group LLC, most recently known as “Project Local” during its meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the County Government Center building in Camden.

The FILOT provides for a 6 percent assessment for the next five years. In return, the company will provide at least $2.5 million in capital investment over the next five years.  

RJR Land Group LLC owns Roy’s Wood Products, which manufactures custom cabinet doors and wood products for kitchen and bathroom cabinets as well as custom trim work for residential and commercial construction. The company plans to build a new manufacturing facility on 14 acres in Heritage Point Industrial Park in Lugoff.

Council will also consider third and final reading of a request to rezone 15.35 acres located on Hwy 1 North in Cassatt from RD-2 (Rural Resource District) to GD (General Development) as well as third and final reading of a request to rezone 4.94 acres near Heath Pond Road in Elgin from R-15 (Residential) to B-2 (Business).  Council will also consider third and final reading of an amendment to the ordinance regarding solicitation of funds from motorists.

Council will also consider passage of a resolution supporting the creation of a master plan for the Black River Road/U.S. 521 Corridor.

Council will hear an update regarding tourism development from Tourism Development Director Suzi Sale. Council will also hear a presentation regarding risk management awards from John Henderson, who is with the South Carolina Association of Counties, as well as a presentation from Sheriff Jim Matthews regarding the recent uptick in gang-related activity in Kershaw County.

Council will also consider appointments to the county ATAX Committee, Airport Commission and Santee-Wateree Regional Transportation Authority Board.

Council will discuss the results of its Feb. 4 goal-setting retreat.

Kershaw County Council meets at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in the County Government Center, 515 Walnut St., Camden.  Meetings are open to the public.
