The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) arrested a Bethune man Wednesday for attempted murder in connection with an incident that took place April 15.

According to a KCSO press release, deputies arrested Larry George Dunham, 35, of Dinkins Circle, Bethune and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. KCSO officials said in the press release that Dunham was on probation at the time of his arrest.

Deputies responded to a “shots fired” call around 11:15 a.m. April 15 on Youngs Bridge Road. A victim and witness said Dunham came to the victim’s residence late that night and an argument began. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Dunham allegedly fired two rounds from a 9mm handgun at the 73-year-old victim.

Dunham then reportedly fled the scene. Deputies did not arrest him that night. While working on the case, however, investigators recovered two 9mm casings and one spent round that had passed through the exterior wall of the victim’s home and into a coat closet. The second round went all the way through the wall and ceiling into the attic. Deputies have yet to find the handgun.

Investigators spoke with a Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office prosecutor and obtained warrants for Dunham.

Wednesday, investigators received information that Dunham was at the Bojangles restaurant on U.S. 601 in Lugoff where he worked. They located him there, arrested him and transported him to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he remains pending a bond hearing.

According to the KCSO, Dunham has previously been arrested for numerous narcotics violations, first degree burglary, strong armed robbery, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, driving under suspension, numerous traffic offenses and three times for failure to stop for a blue light.
