A Lee County woman is dead after a collision Friday evening with a tractor trailer on S.C. 34.

According to Kershaw County Coroner David West, Mary C. “Cathy” Arledge-Wood, 64, had just left her place of employment, Piggly Wiggly of Camden, and was driving east on S.C. 34 toward Bishopville when her vehicle struck the left side of the trailer on a tractor trailer rig that was positioned across the road. According to West and Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol, the driver of the tractor trailer was attempting to back his rig into onto his property, located along the highway, when the accident occurred.

West said Kershaw County 911 Dispatch received the call at 8:04 p.m. Friday reporting that a vehicle had run under an 18-wheeler trailer. Arledge-Wood was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, West said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the accident, which is still under investigation, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
