Camden High and Lugoff-Elgin High students used the week leading up to their rival football game to raise money for the United Way of Kershaw County. As announced at halftime of the football game, Lugoff-Elgin High raised $40,748.20 and Camden High raised $24,825.81, new all-time high amounts for both schools and over $26,000 more than last year’s total. Senior citizens can attend school-sponsored events free

Kershaw County citizens age 65 years or older can receive lifetime Golden Circle passes that allow them to attend school-sponsored activities or athletic events free of charge.

A year ago, a colorful banner saying “Have a successful school year!” appeared at Boykin Park, donated by the Boykin Park Neighborhood Group (BPNG) in August 2013. At that time, the BPNG had planned a special back-to-school program for children in the neighborhood, but weather conditions forced the group to cancel the program.

Elgin resident doesn’t like L-EHS ‘Demon’ nickname

An Elgin resident expressed displeasure with Lugoff-Elgin High School’s “Demon” nickname and the appearance of the school’s cheerleaders and basketball players during Tuesday night’s Kershaw County Board of School Trustees’ meeting. In return, trustees later expressed displeasure with the words the woman used during the meeting’s public comment time.
