David Branham (center) was surprised Wednesday morning with the announcement of his being named the Kershaw County School District’s 2017 Principal of the Year. Celebrating with him (from left) are his daughter, Clara Grace; wife, Rebekah Branham; son, Cauthen Branham; parents Gail and Gene Branham; and sister, Patricia Tupper, holding her son, Kirby.

Wednesday turned out to be a special day at North Central High School (NCHS).

That morning, the Kershaw County School District named NCHS Principal David Branham as its 2017 Principal of the Year. The district selected Branham after a vote by school and district administrators. He has served as NCHS’ principal since 2014.

Branham started his career as an agricultural education teacher and coach at NCHS and became an assistant principal there in 2009. He also served as principal for both Mt. Pisgah and Bethune elementary schools for two years. Under Branham’s guidance, U.S. News & World Report named NCHS one of the “Best High Schools in America.”

The district will formally recognize Branham on April 20 during its Teacher of the Year Gala.
