The search for a new superintendent to lead the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) has begun, and the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees is seeking input from district employees and the community to assist with the process.

A series of small group meetings and public forums have been planned for Mar. 19-22 for employees and the community. Participants will be able to share feedback with a team from BWP & Associates, the search firm selected by the school board to assist trustees with the search process. BWP consultants will seek suggestions, answer questions and explain the search process during scheduled meetings and forums.

“One of the main outcomes of this community engagement process will be the creation of a ‘Leadership Profile’ that will identify the characteristics and skill set our next superintendent needs to be successful,” Board Chairman Dr. James Smith said. “This profile will assist the search team in its recruiting efforts and the board in its selection process.”

Smith said that open forums for the community are planned on Monday, March 19 from 6-7 p.m. in the auditoriums of Camden, Lugoff-Elgin and North Central high schools. Forums will be open to anyone who would like to attend.

“We planned these forums at different locations to make it as convenient as possible and to encourage participation,” said Smith.

Employee forums for all teachers, certified staff and support staff will be conducted on Tuesday, March 20 from 4-5 p.m. in the auditoriums of all three high schools.

An online survey related to characteristics and skill sets desired in a superintendent will also be available on the district’s website starting Mar. 19. The survey will be open until April 6, and results will be reported to the board to aid in its selection process.

Community engagement activities also include individual interviews with school board members and smaller group meetings with employees, parents and community leaders.

“We encourage our employees and community members to take advantage of these opportunities to learn about the search process and share input on the skill set and characteristics they want to see in our next superintendent. We certainly appreciate participation in these planned activities,” Smith said.
